Target Information
Matrix Metalloproteinase 13 (MMP-13) is a collagenase that plays a crucial role in the irreversible destruction of cartilage collagen in conditions such as osteoarthritis (OA). It is involved in tissue remodeling and extracellular matrix turnover. Matrix Metalloproteinase 13 is encoded by the MMP13 gene in horses. Research has shown that synoviocytes and chondrocytes from clinically normal and arthritic joints can express MMP-13. MMP-13 has been shown to be more sensitive to doxycycline than other MMPs.
