Target Information
Galanin is a neuropeptide composed of 29 amino acids and is encoded by the GAL gene. It is widely found in the brain, spinal cord, and gut of both humans and other mammals. The function of galanin in cats involves many aspects such as the cardiovascular system, autonomic nervous system, cardiac function, neuroprotection, endocrine regulation, and behavioral and pain regulation. The diversity of these functions reflects the widespread role of galanin as a multifunctional neuropeptide in cats. Research has demonstrated that galanin can inhibit cardiac vagal action and lead to a decrease in systemic blood pressure in anesthetized cats.
