Target Information
The thyroid gland produces T4, a hormone crucial for elevating various enzymes that generate energy for the body. Free T4 refers to the thyroxine that remains unattached to proteins in the bloodstream. Among fish, there is a remarkably broad range of free T4 and T3 levels both within and between different species. The mode of binding of T4 to serum proteins may vary between species. For example, in pigeons, T4 binds only to prealbumin, whereas in other species it binds to multiple serum proteins. This binding property may affect T4 transport and function.
