Target Information

The insulin-like growth factors, IGF-I and IGF-II, are single-chain polypeptides that exhibit structural similarities to proinsulin. These factors are found in fish, where their structures remain largely conserved. Notably, fish IGF-II closely resembles its counterparts in mammals. Both IGF-I and IGF-II play crucial roles in growth during the prenatal stage. The functions of IGF2 in fish are diverse and complex, covering multiple aspects of growth, development, reproduction, cellular pluripotency, and nutritional and metabolic regulation. Although its specific mechanisms may vary in different fish species, IGF2, as an important component of the insulin-like growth factor system, is of great significance in fish biology.
