Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) is a cytokine that plays a role in systemic inflammation and immune cell regulation. Primarily produced by activated macrophages, TNF-α exists in both membrane-bound and secreted forms. This cytokine is highly conserved across vertebrates, including all teleost fish species. In fish, TNF-α may respond to pathogen infection or environmental stress by regulating immune responses and inflammatory processes. This is consistent with the function of TNF-α in other vertebrates, as TNF-α, as a conserved cytokine, usually has similar biological functions in different species.
