Target Information

Matrix metallopeptidase 13 is encoded by the MMP13 gene in sheep. It is also known as collagenase 3.It belongs to the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family and, similar to most MMPs, is secreted as an inactive proenzyme. While the precise mechanism is not fully understood, the hemopexin domain is involved in collagen degradation, as the catalytic domain on its own is notably inefficient at breaking down collagen.
