The fatty acid synthetase found in animal tissues comprises dual subunits, each comprising a multienzymic protein comprising domains for the acyl carrier peptide and the seven specific catalytic activities required for converting acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA into palmitate. Goose fatty acid synthetase mRNA has a molecular weight of 2.95 X 10(6), which is large enough to code for a protein with a molecular weight of 250,000.
