Target Information
Thioredoxin is involved in various redox reactions by reversibly oxidizing its active center dithiol to a disulfide and catalyzing dithiol-disulfide exchange reactions. It plays a role in the reversible S-nitrosylation of cysteine residues in target proteins, contributing to the cellular response to intracellular nitric oxide. In rabbits, thioredoxin is encoded by the TXN gene. Thioredoxin has multiple functions in rabbits, including maintenance of protein synthesis, antioxidant protection, signaling regulation, and cytoprotection. These functions suggest that the thioredoxin system is important in both physiological and pathological processes in rabbits.
