Target Information
The C-terminal telopeptide (CTX), also referred to as carboxy-terminal collagen crosslinks, is found in the fibrillar collagens like collagen type I and type II. Among these, C-terminal cross-linked telopeptides of type II collagen (CTX-II) are commonly evaluated as markers for diagnosing osteoarthritis (OA). It's used to assess the progression of osteoarthritis and the effects of treatments. CTX-II can also be used to monitor cartilage degradation in rheumatoid arthritis. Because CTX-II is a marker of cartilage breakdown, it may be relevant to skeletal research that utilizes guinea pigs.
