Target Information
Secretory immunoglobulins are antibodies present in external fluids such as milk, bile, and saliva, setting them apart from serum antibodies. Secretory Immunoglobulin A (sIgA) is the primary mucosal antibody in mammals. The production of sIgA against specific antigens relies on the sampling by M cells and underlying dendritic cells, T cell activation, and B cell class switching within the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), mesenteric lymph nodes, and isolated lymphoid follicles in the small intestine. Studies have shown that sIgA from rabbits is resistant to papain.
