Target Information
Lectin Like Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor 1 (LOX1) is a receptor responsible for the recognition, internalization, and degradation of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) by vascular endothelial cells. OxLDL, a marker of atherosclerosis, triggers the activation and dysfunction of these cells, leading to pro-inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. Its interaction with oxLDL activates NF-kappa-B by increasing intracellular reactive oxygen levels, leading to various pro-atherogenic effects, including reduced nitric oxide (NO) release, enhanced monocyte adhesion, and apoptosis. The function of LOX1 in rabbits is focused on its ability to recognize and bind oxidized low-density lipoproteins and its key role in atherogenesis
