Target Information
Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF alpha) is an inflammatory cytokine produced by macrophages and monocytes during acute inflammation. It is responsible for a variety of cellular signaling events that can lead to necrosis or apoptosis. Guinea pigs are extensively used as models for respiratory diseases, particularly asthma and allergic airway inflammation. Guinea pigs are used to study the effects of TNF-α on airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation. Recombinant guinea pig TNF-alpha plays a role in controlling mycobacterial replication, thereby enhancing the host's resistance against M. tuberculosis.
