Target Information

Canine cytokeratin 19 (CK19) is a member of the acidic type I cytokeratin family proteins, known for its role in the structural integrity of epithelial cells and as a marker for epithelial tissues. It is highly preserved in its α-helical central domain, crucial for intermediate filament formation, and is implicated in various cellular processes, including cell apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, invasion, and metastasis. CK19 is also recognized for its potential role in tumor detection, particularly in monitoring cancer stem cell-like cells and their reprogramming to less aggressive forms. Its expression is associated with cancer stemness in hepatocellular carcinoma and is involved in signaling pathways that regulate cell behavior. In veterinary oncology, CK19 mRNA detection in canine mammary tumors has been explored, indicating its potential as a diagnostic marker, although its utility in peripheral blood for metastatic monitoring is still under investigation. CK19's expression patterns in canine tumors may differentiate non-neoplastic from neoplastic mammary tissues, suggesting its potential role in diagnostics and prognosis.
