Porcine glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (pGSK-3β) is a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that plays a pivotal role in various cellular processes in pigs, including glycogen synthesis, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis. It is a key regulatory enzyme involved in the control of glucose homeostasis by phosphorylating and inactivating glycogen synthase, thereby influencing glycogen deposition in liver and muscle tissues. pGSK-3β is also implicated in the Wnt signaling pathway, where it antagonizes the pathway's activity by phosphorylating and promoting the degradation of β-catenin, a central component of the Wnt signaling cascade.
