Target Information
Bovine odorant-binding protein (bOBP) is a member of the lipocalin family, primarily found in the nasal mucosa of cattle. It is a small, extracellular protein that plays a crucial role in olfaction by binding and transporting hydrophobic odorant molecules across the aqueous mucus layer to olfactory receptors. Unlike other lipocalins, bOBP lacks a conserved disulfide bond and can form domain-swapped dimers, which contribute to its unique structural stability. This protein has a high affinity for various odorants, typically binding them in the micromolar range.
