Target Information
Canine involucrin is a precursor protein of the cornified envelope, which is crucial for the late stages of keratinocyte differentiation in the epidermis. It is expressed in a range of stratified squamous epithelia, including the cornea, and is involved in the formation of the skin's outermost cornified layer, playing a key role in skin barrier function. Abnormal expression of Involucrin is observed in squamous cell carcinomas and premalignant lesions, and its expression is reduced in severe dysplasias, making it a significant marker for early diagnosis and prognosis in canine skin tumors. Involucrin's role in the skin's barrier and its association with keratinocyte differentiation make it a critical target for understanding and treating skin diseases in dogs, including atopic dermatitis and various skin neoplasms.
