Target Information
Canine melan A, also known as MART-1, is a melanocytic marker that is used in immunohistochemical testing to differentiate canine extramedullary plasmacytomas (CEMPs) from other round cell tumors, including lymphoma, cutaneous histiocytoma, and amelanotic melanomas. It is expressed in melanocytes and melanoma cells, making it a valuable tool for the diagnosis of melanocytic neoplasms in dogs. Melan A is part of a larger immunopanel that includes λ light chain, CD20, and PNL2, which aids in distinguishing CEMPs from amelanotic melanomas. Its expression is also utilized in the characterization of primary cultures of normal and neoplastic canine melanocytes, contributing to the understanding of canine melanoma as a model for human disease.
