Target Information
Chicken collagen type XII alpha 1 (COL12A1) is a member of the FACIT (fibril-associated collagens with interrupted triple helices) collagen family, playing a significant role in the extracellular matrix. This protein is crucial for the organization and mechanical properties of collagen fibril bundles, particularly in dense connective tissues and bone. COL12A1 assembles from three identical α-chains, featuring three threadlike N-terminal noncollagenous NC3 domains joined by disulfide bonds and a short interrupted collagen triple helix toward the C-terminus. It interacts with type I collagen-containing fibrils, potentially regulating the organization of these fibrils and contributing to tissue integrity.
