Target Information
Porcine matrix metallopeptidase 3 (MMP-3), also known as stromelysin-1, is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family, which are zinc-dependent endopeptidases playing pivotal roles in the turnover of extracellular matrix components in pigs. MMP-3 is particularly involved in the degradation of various protein substrates, including proteoglycans, collagen types II, IV, IX, and X, and fibronectin, making it essential for physiological processes such as tissue remodeling, wound healing, and embryonic development. This enzyme is expressed in a variety of cell types, including chondrocytes, synovial cells, and fibroblasts, and its dysregulation is implicated in numerous pathological conditions, notably in the progression of arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. In pigs, MMP-3 is a target of interest for research into musculoskeletal health and diseases, where its activity and regulation are critical for maintaining joint integrity and function.
