Porcine matrix metallopeptidase 3 (MMP-3), also known as stromelysin-1, is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family, which are zinc-dependent endopeptidases playing pivotal roles in the turnover of extracellular matrix components in pigs. MMP-3 is particularly involved in the degradation of various protein substrates, including proteoglycans, collagen types II, IV, IX, and X, and fibronectin, making it essential for physiological processes such as tissue remodeling, wound healing, and embryonic development.
