Target Information
Sheep lipopolysaccharide binding protein (LBP) is a key component of the innate immune system, recognizing and binding to lipopolysaccharides (LPS), which are pathogen-associated molecular patterns found in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. LBP plays a crucial role in the initial phase of infection by mediating a rapid inflammatory response, which helps to block the growth and dissemination of infectious agents. It extracts LPS from bacterial membranes and vesicles, then transfers LPS to CD14, leading to the activation of multiple signaling components, including NF-κB and IRF3, and the subsequent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
