Target Information

Bovine interferon tau (IFNT) is a type I interferon crucial for maternal recognition of pregnancy in ruminants. It is secreted by the mononuclear trophectoderm cells of the developing embryo during the peri-implantation period. IFNT acts as a key signal to extend corpus luteum function, maintaining progesterone production essential for pregnancy. It binds to type-1 interferon receptors (IFNAR1 and IFNAR2), activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and inducing interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) with antiviral and immunosuppressive roles. This unique cytokine also influences endometrial gene expression, preparing the uterus for implantation.
