Target Information
Bovine cytochrome C is a small heme-containing protein that plays a crucial role in cellular respiration by facilitating electron transfer within the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It is involved in shuttling electrons between Complex III and Complex IV, a process essential for oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. This protein is highly conserved among mammals and is encoded in the nucleus, synthesized as apo-cytochrome C, and then processed to its mature form. In addition to its role in energy production, bovine cytochrome C is also involved in apoptosis, where it is released from the mitochondria to activate caspases and trigger programmed cell death.
