Target Information

Porcine neurocalcin delta (NCALD) is a neuronal calcium sensor protein that plays a significant role in calcium signaling within the nervous system. As a member of the EF-hand protein family, NCALD is composed of four EF-hand motifs, although only three of them can bind calcium. The binding of calcium to NCALD induces a conformational change, leading to the extrusion of its N-terminal myristoyl group and some hydrophilic residues. This mechanism, known as the calcium-myristoyl switch, is involved in the protein's interaction with biological membranes and is crucial for its function in signal transduction.
