Target Information
Porcine phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (pPSAT1) is an enzyme that plays a pivotal role in the biosynthesis of serine, an essential amino acid, within the cell. pPSAT1 catalyzes the transfer of an amino group from glutamate to 3-phosphoglycerate, thereby producing phosphoserine, which is a key intermediate in the pathway to serine. This enzyme is particularly important in the one-carbon metabolism and the maintenance of cellular homeostasis, as serine is a precursor for the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines, which are the building blocks of DNA and RNA. pPSAT1 is also involved in the folate cycle, which is crucial for the transfer of one-carbon units in various biosynthetic reactions.
