Target Information
Canine IgE (immunoglobulin E) is a type of antibody that plays a critical role in the immune system of dogs, particularly in mediating allergic reactions and immune responses to parasites. It is produced by plasma cells and circulates in the blood, where it binds to specific receptors on mast cells and basophils. Upon exposure to allergens or parasitic antigens, IgE triggers the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators, leading to symptoms such as itching, swelling, and respiratory distress. In dogs, elevated levels of IgE are often associated with atopic dermatitis, a common allergic skin condition, and other hypersensitivity disorders. IgE also plays a role in the immune response against parasitic infections, such as those caused by fleas and certain worms.
