Target Information
Canine Aconitase 2 (ACO2) is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of citrate to isocitrate via cis-aconitate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. It plays a key role in cellular energy production and maintaining mitochondrial function. ACO2 is encoded in the nucleus and localized in the mitochondrial matrix, where it is essential for cellular respiration and redox balance. Defects in ACO2 are associated with infantile cerebellar-retinal degeneration (ICRD), highlighting its importance in development and cellular homeostasis.
