Target Information
Cytochrome P450 19 Type I is encoded by the CYP19A1 gene in pigs. CYP19A1 catalyzes the conversion of androgens (such as testosterone) to estrogens (such as estradiol). Mutations in this gene can result in either increased or decreased aromatase activity, affecting estrogen levels and associated phenotypes. The porcine CYP19 locus includes three paralogous copies, CYP19A1, CYP19A2 and CYP19A3, spanning approximately 330 kb of chromosome 1.
