Target Information

Mucin 2, also known as MUC2, is a gel-forming mucin that is the main component of mucus in the gastrointestinal tract. It is produced by goblet cells in the lining of the intestines and plays a crucial role in protecting the underlying tissues from irritation, infection, and dehydration. Mucin 2 is encoded by the MUC2 gene in pigs. In pigs, the true cardiac gland region was characterized by increased expression of PIGR, OLFM4, CXCL8 and MUC2 relative to the two other regions (fundic and pyloric)
