Target Information
The antibacterial peptide PMAP 23 is encoded by the PMAP-23 gene in pigs. PMAP-23 is a cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide identified from porcine leukocytes. PMAP-23 has been reported to have potent antimicrobial activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria without haemolytic activity. It is a porcine host defence peptide with potent antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and fungi. PMAP-23 is predominantly antibacterial with limited immunomodulatory capacity.
