Target Information
Pulmonary Surfactant-Associated Protein C (SP-C) is encoded by the SFTPC gene in pigs. SP-C plays a crucial role in reducing surface tension within the alveoli (tiny air sacs) of the lungs. SP-C ensures proper lung inflation during breathing. Mutations in the SFTPC gene can lead to lung diseases. Porcine SFTPC is a single-copy gene located on porcine chromosome 14. It is a peptide secreted by alveolar type II pneumocytes of the lung.
