Target Information

In rabbits, ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 1 is encoded by the ABCG1 gene. The protein produced by this gene is part of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which are responsible for transporting a variety of molecules across both extracellular and intracellular membranes. The function of ABCG1 in rabbits is mainly related to its role in cholesterol metabolism and atherosclerosis. According to , ABCG1 protein plays an important role as a reverse cholesterol transporter in the vascular wall by transporting cholesterol from the vascular wall to the bloodstream, thereby reducing the development of atherosclerosis and improving endothelial function.
