Target Information

The SAA gene encodes Serum Amyloid A, a significant acute phase protein. It serves as an inflammatory biomarker, with its concentration varying in response to infectious and inflammatory diseases. Rabbit serum amyloid A (SAA) has important biological functions in the inflammatory response, including the induction of monocyte and polymorphonuclear leukocyte migration, adhesion, and tissue infiltration. These functions may be realized through binding to HDL and regulation of cell surface adhesion molecules. Prior research found a diverse pattern of SAA expression in hepatocytes within the livers of unstimulated mice and rabbits.
