Target Information

The ACP5 gene encodes tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), which is expressed in osteoclasts, macrophages, and dendritic cells. In the bloodstream, two isoforms of TRAP are present: TRAP5a, secreted by macrophages and dendritic cells, and TRAP5b, originating from osteoclasts. TRAP5b serves as a marker of osteoclast activity and is an indicator of bone resorption. TRAP5b is a specific marker in serum used to monitor the effects of antiresorptive therapy. Studies have shown that TRAP5b activity is significantly elevated during bone resorption.
