Aeromonas hydrophila is a heterotrophic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium predominantly found in warm climates. This bacterium acts as an opportunistic pathogen in humans, causing both extraintestinal and intestinal infections, and also poses a threat to animals, leading to infections in fish, amphibians, and mammals. The FKBP-type peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase FkpA facilitates protein folding by catalyzing the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides, and it likely plays a role in the folding of extracytoplasmic proteins.
