Target Information

Anaplasma phagocytophilum p44 is the major surface protein of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, encoded by a paralogous gene family. This protein is expressed on the surface of the bacteria and is associated with immune evasion and antigenic variation. The p44 protein has multiple forms and can produce various isoforms through gene conversion, which helps the bacteria survive and spread within the host. p44 also functions as a porin, facilitating the transport of certain sugars and amino acids through the bacterial membrane.
