Target Information
Bovine integrin alpha 2 (ITGA2), also known as CD49b, is a membrane-bound glycoprotein that forms a heterodimer with the beta-1 subunit (CD29) to create the very late antigen-2 (VLA-2) receptor. This complex is crucial for cell adhesion, migration, and signaling in various biological processes. In cattle, ITGA2 plays a significant role in the interaction of cells with the extracellular matrix, particularly in the context of collagen binding. It is involved in cellmatrix adhesion, collagen receptor activity, and is implicated in cell adhesion mediated by integrin, cell surface receptor signaling pathway, and mesodermal cell differentiation. ITGA2 is also relevant in the immune response and blood cell regulation. Its expression can vary due to the presence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which can alter the transcription rate by affecting the affinity for its transcription factors. The study of ITGA2 in cattle could provide insights into its role in health and disease, similar to its implications in human and other species.
