Target Information
Bovine tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase 4 (TIMP4) is a protein that belongs to the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases family. It is known to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that break down components of the extracellular matrix. TIMP4 plays a significant role in a variety of physiological processes in cattle, including cell proliferation, tissue remodeling, and the inhibition of angiogenesis. It is particularly important in maintaining tissue homeostasis and in the regulation of immune responses. TIMP4 is also implicated in the suppression of certain cancers and is involved in embryonic development and wound healing. The balance between TIMP4 and MMPs is crucial for preventing excessive degradation of the extracellular matrix, which can lead to pathological conditions such as tissue fibrosis and cancer progression.
