Target Information

Nitric Oxide Synthase, Endothelial is an enzyme expressed in the endothelium (lining of blood vessels) that synthesizes nitric oxide (NO), a signaling molecule involved in vasodilation, blood pressure regulation, and platelet inhibition. It is encoded by the NOS3 gene in cattle. It is also known as eNOS. It belongs to a unique family of proteins that catalyzed a 5-electron oxidation of a guanidino nitrogen atom of L-arginine in the presence of molecular oxygen and NADPH, imultaneously forming NO and stoichiometric amounts of L-citrulline.
