Target Information
Canine adenovirus (CAdV), belonging to the Mastadenovirus genus within the Adenoviridae family, is a significant pathogen responsible for severe viral diseases in dogs globally. CAdV is categorized into two types: CAdV-1, which is known to cause canine infectious hepatitis and fox encephalitis, and CAdV-2, which is associated with infectious laryngotracheitis and enteritis. CAdV-2 is distinct from CAdV-1 in terms of virulence, antigenic structure, infectivity, and the range of erythrocyte aggregation. Infected dogs may exhibit persistent high fever, cough, and other clinical signs such as mucoid nasal discharge, tonsillitis, laryngotracheitis, pneumonia, vomiting, and diarrhea. CAdV-2 is a primary pathogen leading to canine viral enteritis. The virus encodes three major capsid proteins: Fiber, Hexon, and Penton. The Fiber protein is essential for viral attachment to specific cell surface receptors, while the Penton base facilitates virus internalization.
