Target Information
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) is a significant pathogen responsible for respiratory illnesses in cattle globally. As an enveloped, non-segmented, negative-stranded RNA virus, BRSV is classified within the order Mononegavirales. The viral particle is enveloped by a lipid layer derived from the host's plasma membrane, adorned with three distinct virally encoded transmembrane surface glycoproteins that protrude as spikes. These include the large glycoprotein G, the fusion protein F, and the small hydrophobic protein SH. Among these, the attachment (G) protein and the fusion (F) protein are recognized as the primary protective antigens of the virus. The F protein, a type I membrane-bound glycoprotein, facilitates the fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, thereby initiating a new cycle of infection. Initially synthesized as a single polypeptide precursor known as F0, this protein undergoes post-translational cleavage into two subunits that remain linked via disulfide bridges.
