Target Information

Borrelia afzelii OspC is a major outer surface lipoprotein of Borrelia afzelii, with a molecular weight of about 23kDa. OspC is expressed during transmission from ticks to mammals and in the early phase of infection in mammalian hosts. It is a highly antigenic protein that induces a strong immune response in the host. OspC is crucial for the dissemination of Borrelia afzelii within ticks, and studies have shown that an OspC-deficient mutant strain loses its ability to disseminate from the midgut to the salivary glands of ticks.
