Target Information
In veterinary medicine, the function of Langya virus fusion protein (F) is to facilitate the fusion of the virus with the host cell membrane. The F protein is a type I transmembrane protein that can be cleaved into disulfide-linked F1 and F2 subunits by enzymes such as cathepsin L, a process essential for membrane fusion. The F protein transitions from a metastable prefusion form to an extended postfusion form to promote host cell entry. Prefusion F protein elicits higher neutralizing antibody titers than postfusion F protein, suggesting that stabilization of prefusion F may aid in vaccine development. Thus, the F protein plays a key role in the infection mechanism of Langya virus and in the design of vaccines.
