Target Information
Vibrio cholerae is a species of Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, comma-shaped bacteria. Two serogroups, O1 and O139, are responsible for cholera outbreaks. This zoonotic bacterium is commonly found in various bodies of water and has also been reported to infect aquatic animals. Zona occludens toxin can increase the permeability of the small intestine mucosa by affecting the structure of intercellular tight junctions.
