Target Information

Canine aquaporin-2 (AQP2) is a water channel protein expressed in the renal collecting ducts, crucial for water reabsorption and urine concentration. It is regulated by vasopressin, which controls its translocation to the apical membrane to facilitate water transport. AQP2 is vital for maintaining water homeostasis, and its dysfunction can lead to conditions like nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. In dogs, AQP2 expression is significantly reduced in chronic kidney disease, contributing to polyuria.
