Target Information
In veterinary medicine, the Parathyroid Hormone/Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide Receptor 1 (PTH1R) is a key regulator of calcium homeostasis and bone metabolism. It binds to parathyroid hormone (PTH) and parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) to regulate bone formation, remodeling, and calcium absorption and reabsorption. In canine diseases, dysfunction of PTH1R can lead to hypercalcemia or hypocalcemia, causing renal, skeletal, or cardiovascular disorders. Additionally, PTH1R is involved in tumor-induced hypercalcemia, as certain tumors secrete PTHrP, which activates PTH1R and increases blood calcium levels. Thus, PTH1R is an important target for studying calcium disorders and related diseases in dogs.
