Target Information

Ehrlichia canis Gp19 is a major immunoreactive glycoprotein of approximately 19kDa in Ehrlichia canis. It is highly conserved and elicits an early Ehrlichia-specific antibody response in infected dogs. The protein contains an N-terminal region rich in serine/threonine/glutamate (STE) that includes a dog-specific antibody epitope and reacts strongly with serum from E. canis-infected dogs. Gp19 is expressed on both reticulate and dense-cored cells of Ehrlichia canis and is found extracellularly in the fibrillar matrix and associated with the morula membrane, as well as in the host cell cytoplasm and nucleus. Due to its high conservation and immunoreactivity, Gp19 is considered a potential target for diagnostic and vaccine development.
