Target Information
In felines, coagulation factor IX (F9) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein involved in the intrinsic coagulation pathway. It converts factor X to its active form in the presence of Ca²⁺ ions, phospholipids, and factor VIIIa, facilitating blood clotting. Synthesized in the liver, F9 circulates as an inactive zymogen and is activated by factor XIa or factor VIIa to participate in the coagulation cascade. Deficiencies or abnormalities in F9 can lead to hemophilia B, an X-linked bleeding disorder.
