Target Information
Feline sodium-dependent phosphate transporter 1 (SLC20A1) is a membrane protein that facilitates phosphate transport in cells. It absorbs phosphate from interstitial fluid for cellular metabolism, signal transduction, and nucleic acid synthesis. In veterinary medicine, SLC20A1 is also recognized as a receptor for certain retroviruses, including feline leukemia virus subgroup B (FeLV-B), making it relevant for studying viral infections in cats. Additionally, it may play a role in bone and cartilage development, as well as vascular calcification.
