Target Information
H7N9 avian influenza virus can cause severe infections and has the potential to spark a major pandemic. Influenza viruses have two primary surface glycoproteins: hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). HA is responsible for the attachment of virions to terminal sialic acids (SAs) on the cell surface and facilitates the fusion of the virus with cellular membranes. NA cleaves terminal SA residues on the host cell surfaces, aiding in the release of progeny virions from infected cells.
