Target Information
Shigella primarily causes disease in primates and does not affect other mammals. Shigella dysenteriae is one of the species within the Shigella genus. It is considered the most virulent, and can produce a potent cytotoxin known as Shigatoxin. Chaperonin GroEL, together with its co-chaperonin GroES, plays an essential role in assisting protein folding.
